Recognition
EavesJam identifies songs through the iPhone microphone using Apple's ShazamKit framework. It can only recognize audio that reaches the microphone. It cannot capture headphone audio, phone calls, or audio playing only inside another app. Silence, unsupported catalog material, distance, and noisy or quiet rooms can all leave gaps.
Listening While Open, In Another App, Or Locked
Start a controlled Nonstop session before your outing. It listens through the iPhone microphone while EavesJam is open and being viewed, and it is designed to continue after you switch apps or lock the phone. iOS can still interrupt recognition for calls, audio conflicts, permission changes, battery constraints, or system limits, so complete capture is not guaranteed.
Listening Choices
For lighter casual discovery
Choose Quick Checks when you're only casually curious. It listens briefly on a timer and can miss songs between samples, especially if iOS delays the next one.
Can EavesJam hear headphones or calls?
No. EavesJam uses the iPhone microphone. It does not identify headphone audio, phone calls, or private audio playing only inside another app.
Battery
Nonstop keeps the microphone and audio engine active, so it uses more battery than a passive app. EavesJam shows battery measurements from listening runs on the device and does not estimate drain until it has a completed unplugged run of at least 30 minutes.
Privacy
EavesJam stores recognized song metadata and listening records locally on the iPhone. It uses compact acoustic signatures transiently with Apple's ShazamKit service for matching, but EavesJam does not retain raw audio. The Settings screen includes a local delete action for saved songs, folders, listening-window records, diagnostics, and battery measurements.
