Do I need a Shazam or Apple Music subscription?
No. Recognition runs on ShazamKit, which Apple builds into iOS. There is nothing to subscribe to and nothing to sign into.

Recognition
EavesJam identifies songs through the iPhone microphone using Apple's ShazamKit framework. It can only recognize audio that reaches the microphone. It does not identify headphone audio, audio playing only on another device far from the phone, silence, unsupported catalog material, or songs that are too quiet or noisy to match.
Sessions
EavesJam has one thing to decide: how long it runs. Start without a preset end time and stop it yourself, or choose a 30-minute, 1-hour, 2-hour, 4-hour, or 8-hour timer. An active session can keep listening when the phone is locked or you use another app. iOS can interrupt recognition for calls, audio conflicts, permission changes, battery constraints, or system limits.
Can EavesJam hear headphones or calls?
No. EavesJam uses the iPhone microphone. It does not identify headphone audio, phone calls, or private audio playing only inside another app.
A song or stretch is missing.
First, confirm the music is playing out loud near the iPhone microphone and EavesJam says Listening. Try a clear, released recording. Then open EavesJam Settings → Help → Listening log and check for quiet input, interruptions, or no-match details. Loud rooms, uncommon recordings, quiet music, and iOS interruptions can prevent a match.
Listening stopped after a restart or update.
After turning off or restarting the iPhone, reopen EavesJam and start a new session. Check that it still says Listening after an EavesJam or iOS update. A temporary audio interruption can recover on its own, but a phone restart or force-quit requires a new session.
Battery
Battery use varies with session length, phone, battery health, and conditions. Choose an open-ended session or a timer that fits what you are doing. EavesJam shows the whole phone's battery change during a session in Settings → Help → Listening log; it is not EavesJam's share alone. For iOS usage by app, open iPhone Settings and tap Battery.
Privacy
EavesJam stores recognized metadata and listening records locally. Raw audio is not stored by EavesJam. The Settings screen includes a local delete action for saved songs, folders, listening-window records, diagnostics, and battery measurements.
