How does EavesJam recognize songs?
EavesJam uses Apple's ShazamKit to identify nearby music. During a session, it keeps recognizing songs and groups the matches into a private timeline on your iPhone.
Do I need a music subscription?
No subscription is needed to recognize songs. EavesJam does not require an account. Listening to a full song through a music service depends on that service and your access to it.
Does EavesJam record or store audio?
No. Short stretches of mic audio are turned into compact acoustic signatures, matched against Apple's catalog, and discarded. Raw audio is never stored or uploaded.
Does it keep listening when my phone is locked?
Yes, during an active session. It keeps going after you lock the phone or switch apps, until you stop it or the timer runs out. iOS can interrupt listening. After turning off or restarting the iPhone, reopen EavesJam and start a new session. Check listening again after EavesJam or iOS updates.
Will it catch every song?
No, and it won't pretend it did. Loud rooms, rare tracks, and iOS interruptions cause gaps - the timeline shows them honestly.
How much battery does it use?
Battery use varies with the session length, phone, battery health, and conditions. Choose an open-ended session or a 30-minute, 1-hour, 2-hour, 4-hour, or 8-hour timer. To review actual use on your phone, open iPhone Settings and tap Battery.
What does it cost?
The current TestFlight beta is free. The planned US App Store offer is a 14-day trial, then a $9.99 one-time unlock. There is no subscription or automatic charge. EavesJam supports iPhone with iOS 18 or later and iPad with iPadOS 18 or later. There is no Android version.
